Australia will host a grudge fight for gold as Dricus du Plessis defends his UFC middleweight title against Israel Adesanya at UFC 305 on August 17.

Du Plessis is on a roll, defeating former champion Robert Whittaker by a shot over then-champion Sean Strickland. The 30-year-old former kickboxing champion defeated Strickland for the belt in a fight with a mixed scorecard. The South African is looking to defend the title for the first time.
Adesanya is 2-2 in his last four contests. The New Zealand fighter has lost, won and lost the UFC middleweight title in two years. Taking a year off from action, “The Last Stylebender” is poised to become champion for the third time.
The co-main event will feature Kai Kara-France vs. Steve Erceg at flyweight. Super Star Kara-France is 0-2 in his last two fights after competing for flyweight gold. Kara-France from New Zealand has won eleven by knockout. Erceg snapped his eleven-fight winning streak against Alexandre Pantoja for flyweight gold. The Aussies have won six by submission.
Dan “The Hangman” Hooker looks to extend his win streak to three against top-ranked lightweight contender Mateusz Gamrot, on a three-fight winning streak. Meanwhile, fan favorites Tai Tuivasa and Li Jingliang are back in action.
