UFC welterweight champion Edwards thinks Muhammad is in over his head.

Edwards (13-2 UFC, 21-3 MMA) defends his title in a rematch against Muhammad (14-3 UFC, 23-3 MMA) in the Saturday, July 27 UFC 304 headliner at Co-Op Live in Manchester, England. Both Edwards and Muhammad are unbeaten in double figures. The lone asterisk in their streak was a no-contest against each other in March 2021 – a fight that was ruled a no-contest after Edwards inadvertently poked Belal Muhammad in the eye, rendering him unable to continue.

Belal Muhammad has made some bold claims ahead of their rematch, but Edwards isn’t sure where he’s getting his confidence from. “Confused, Edwards talks a lot, so make sure you can back it up,” Edwards told Red Corner MMA. “As I said, he has been locked up for over a year.

The way he talks makes it sound like he won the first fight, so a bit confused. But like I said, he has to be ready. It’s going to be a long, hard, hard fight for him in Manchester.”

In their first fight, Leon Edwards managed to stumble Muhammad early, winning Round One on all three of the judges’ scorecards. The eye poke happened just 18 seconds into Round 2, and Muhammad is adamant that he can’t predict how their first fight will end.

But Edwards thought otherwise.

“Like I said, the fight, Round one went my way comfortably,” Edwards said. “I was just starting, and then the eye poke happened. Obviously hurt him in the first round. I think he will be too slow for me. Too slow, too predictable, too flat-footed. So, let’s see.”
